Northumberland Recovery College

Northumberland Recovery College is launching soon, to support people with their mental health and wellbeing.

What is a recovery college?

A recovery college is not a building or a place, it’s an opportunity to become your own expert in what works to manage your wellbeing.

A recovery college provides learning experiences, mutual support, and activities at a pace that is right for you.

What activities will Northumberland Recovery College offer?

We have some ideas about what might work, as well as offers of support from local organisations, but we want the college to be shaped by the people who use it and what they would find helpful for their wellbeing.

Here are some examples of activities offered by other recovery colleges:

Where will Northumberland Recovery College be based?

As Northumberland is such a large area, we are starting with five development groups across the county in the following areas:

  • North Northumberland
  • Tynedale
  • Castle Morpeth
  • Cramlington, Bedlington, and Seaton Valley
  • Ashington and Blyth

Students of the college will develop the programme activities for their area.

Who will lead the activities for Northumberland Recovery College?

The activities are developed and provided by people who have personal experience of mental ill-health. This means that everyone can learn from each other’s insights and skills.

Recovery colleges also aim to build friendships and connections, helping people to widen their networks of support.

Who is setting up Northumberland Recovery College?

Mental Health Concern has been commissioned by Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to set up the college.
