Poverty Truth Commission, looking to recruit Community Commissioners
Children North East are thrilled to announce that we are delivering a truly inspiring Poverty Truth Commission for the North of Tyne Combined Authority, spanning the areas of North Tyneside, Newcastle, and Northumberland.
We’re looking to recruit Community Commissioners: simply put, people living in poverty. If you know someone who lives in the North of Tyne who is affected by poverty, and you think they’d be willing to share their stories of adversity, and listen to the stories of others, then we’d love to be introduced to them. Running now until June 2023, the project offers all- expenses-paid travel, food, and training to Community Commissioners who commit to the process.
The aim of North of Tyne’s Poverty Truth Commission is to place those with experience at the heart of process of truth-telling, reflection, and advocacy. If organisations are going to make lasting change to policy and procedure that make for a more equal society, it starts with listening to people whose financial resources are so seriously below that of the average individual, that they are excluded from ordinary living.
