Join us for a series of five creative workshops exploring art, place, colour and connection in and around the riverside environment of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Designed for people looking to support their wellbeing, these relaxed and welcoming sessions offer an opportunity to spend time outdoors, try simple creative activities and connect with others in a supportive setting. No previous art experience is needed.
Over five Monday afternoons, we’ll experiment with drawing local plants using natural materials, collect and mix colours found along the river, explore mindful ways of noticing the world through our bodies, and create simple records of our local environment. We’ll be based indoors, with most sessions including gentle walks down to the river about ten minutes away. The emphasis is on curiosity, exploration and enjoyment rather than artistic skill, with plenty of time for conversation, reflection and a cup of tea.
As the workshops progress, participants will bring the colours, words and lines we have gathered from the landscape together to create a woven paper artwork. Finally, we will use our artworks to produce a unique handmade cushion to take home. Along the way, we’ll discover new ways of tuning into our surroundings, expressing ourselves creatively and finding moments of calm and connection.
The workshops take place on Mondays from 2.00–4.30pm and are led by Berwick-based artist and writer, Anna Chapman Parker (annachapman.co.uk).
Taster session: 20th July at Berwick Parish Church Centre, TD15 1FD
Followed by 4 sessions: 10th Aug, 24th Aug, 31st Aug & 7th Sept at YHA Berwick, Dewar’s Lane, Berwick-upon-Tweed TD15 1HJ
No previous art experience is needed. The sessions are free of charge and all materials are provided. Open to anyone aged 18+ who lives or works in Northumberland.
